Floods fundraiser barbecue
Five young people met with St Luke's Connect Central Youth Team on Friday afternoon to discuss logistics for the lunchtime fundraising event. The City of Greater Bendigo has waived the Civic Gardens booking fee and approaches will be made to local businesses to assist with donating food and drinks for the barbecue. St Luke's Connect Central case worker Hayley Reaby said it was a terrific initiative by these young people and plans were in place to raise as much money as possible for the appeal. 'The young people were watching the flood event unfold on television and perhaps more significantly, on Facebook and they all felt the need to do something to help,' Hayley said. 'They all said that they had Facebook friends living in Queensland impacted by these devastating floods and they all want to do something to help. 'St Luke's is helping the young people co-ordinate the event and linking them up with various businesses in the community in the hope that they can help them with their planning. 'It's a big thing for anyone to run a fundraising event, let alone young people, and we are helping them with as much of the planning and logistics as possible. 'I would urge anyone out and about on Thursday 27th January from 11am to call into the Civic Gardens and pick up a barbecue lunch and drink - all proceeds to be donated to the QLD Flood Appeal,' Hayley said. 'Not only will you be making a donation to Queensland's flood victims, you will also be helping Bendigo's young people in their goal to help others in need.' Sausage in bread $2 Can of soft drink $2
