On Sunday the 28th of November, Aria award winning band Birds Of Tokyo stopped by Bendigo to perform at a free concert, organized by Optus Sound Scribe. There were 1000 tickets to the gig, however to receive a ticket, people had to win them, through different competitions.

Yo Media was lucky enough to join a press conference style media meet and greet with the famous band. The band said that they hadn’t had a chance to look around the city, as they had only been in town for one hour, although they did go to a local burger shop, which they recommended. The band would leave for a flight early Monday morning, so just a short stay in Bendigo.

The band seemed in a pretty good mood prior to the concert, they got into casual conversations with the media, a lot of talk was thrown around about their Aria Award win, although when they won the award, they were too busy eyeing of the dumplings to realize they had won the award! They also noted that the dumplings were in fact good! They actually haven’t received the award yet, maybe it got lost in the post?

The band said that they enjoy having down time, and their favourite place to perform is any place warm, when asked if they think Bendigo will top their list of favourite placed to perform, their response was “the answer has to be yes!”

When asked what their favourite song to perform on stage their response was “it’s hard to say, each song has a different vibe, so it’s impossible to pick”

The concert was opened by Oh Pacific, who entertained the crowd with a few of their songs before the Birds made their first on stage appearance for the night. Yo Media got to go behind the barriers to take close up pictures of the band doing their thing; we got to go less than a meter away from the band, which was amazing!

The buzz around the Chinese precinct, where the gig was held, was immense, it was great to see everyone in the ground getting into the songs, and the reception the birds received when they stepped on stage was amazing!

The birds were also joined by the bats, as they came out from their trees to circle in the sky above the stage.

All in all it was a great night, enjoyed by everyone.
