Givers - In Light By Nuhtaya Johnson

Label: Liberator/Glassnote

The debut album In Light, from Louisiana five piece Givers, is bright and rhythmic and with no surprise it’s been added to the Triple J playlists.

What I like about this album is that it uses different instruments like the ukulele. Each song is unique, with both female and male vocal roles, as well as instrumental breaks. However each song does tend to blend into one, as there is not real standout track providing something different.

Meantime had a weird synth which made it sound like the CD was skipping, which was a bit disconcerting.

I didn’t really enjoy some songs, as they sounded like an eclectic mix of different sounds chucked together, which was not appealing.

I found that I enjoyed the songs with dominant male vocals more than the female.

A good try from the Louisiana outfit, but I won’t be giving it a second listen.
