Is 2010 the year for Rock N’ Roll? With Iron Maiden, Muse, Them Crooked Vultures and Ozzy Osbourne nominated for a Grammy and the release of Motörhead’s 20th studio album 'The Wörld Is Yours', 2010 is looking pretty fine.
Lemmy sings in ‘Rock N’ Roll Music’ track 5 on their latest release, ‘rock n’ roll music is the true religion’ and if that’s so then Motörhead’s 20th studio album ‘The World is Yours’ is the soundtrack to such a life. The milestone of 20th album is reached in a purely Motörhead way, loud, fast and rowdy. Showing that 33 years on from their first release ‘Motörhead’ in 1977, that they still have the ability to produce and play music in their typical rock n’ roll fashion. Motörhead have always been a stripped back fast rock n roll band according to Lemmy, others disagree and call them metal with a hint of punk, whatever they are ‘The World is Yours’ is a typical Motörhead album, fast, anthemic and loud. The album cover also doesn’t stray to far from the usual, as it features the typical Motörhead logo of the ‘Snaggle-tooth’ or ‘War pig’.
‘Brotherhood of the man’ is perhaps the most gruff track on the album featuring the rough, low vocal and raw, dominant bass of Lemmy, along with the dirty thudding guitar. This song is the standout on the album as it is a lot darker than the rest of the songs. ‘Born to Lose’ and ‘Devil’s in my Head’ are other standout tracks, each just as raucous as the rest.
Overall the album is a fine piece of work by Motörhead, showing that there’s no need to change a well known formula when it just works so well every time.
‘Rock n’ roll music you know you can’t refuse it’
