Playing In The Shadows - Example

I was so excited to hear this CD after being a big Example fan but unfortunately I was let down. The songs that have gone mainstream are the best songs on the CD and there is nothing else to support their brilliance. The CD was meant to be a reflection of Example’s life but references come off too easily and the music comes out awkward.

The album seems forced and too busy creating a clumsy sound. His music style has lost the magic of the cool dance raps. The new sound is earthier with a combination of deep bass lines, acoustics and heavy electro.

For the album Example collaborated with Skream, Nero, Faithless and Laidback Luke; all of whom are legends in their own right but somehow the result is short of his previous works.

The best songs on the album would have to be ‘Stay Awake’ which is an awesome dance anthem; ‘Changed the way you kissed me’ and ‘Natural Disaster’. Let’s hope Example revisits his roots and gets back in touch with his magic for the production of his next album.
