Young Guns - All Our Kings Are Dead
Scoring themselves support slots with the likes of Bon Jovi and Lostprophets, Young Guns are rapidly making a name for themselves. This limited edition of their debut album “All Our Kings Are Dead” is full of future anthems and features four bonus tracks, which make up the band’s 2009 EP “Mirrors.”
Touching on subjects close to his heart, vocalist Gustav Wood manages to steer away from popular themes such as romance or heartbreak and instead uses the band’s music as an avenue to express thoughts and feelings gained from personal experiences, or in his own words: “I can only write about what is relevant to me, or else it feels fake.”
Opening track “Sons Of Apathy” comes from growing up without a father and midway through, “Stitches” deals with as Wood describes “struggling with self worth and uncertainty.” Some of my personal favourites include “Crystal Clear” and “Weight Of The World.”
But while this album boasts some catchy riffs and choruses that demand to be belted out, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of repetitiveness as the songs progressed. More than once I caught myself wondering whether I’d heard certain parts or songs before.
An impressive break out into the alternative rock scene if you don’t mind the lack of versatility. You can catch Young Guns at Soundwave Revolution this September!
