Where there's smoke, there's juniors
on target: Bendigo CFA brigade youths take part in last years' CFA youth championships.
Celebrating the program’s 10th anniversary this year, the CFA wants to hear from ambitious and community-
minded people between the ages of 11 and 15.
Juniors can sign-up at CFA brigades in Maiden Gully or Eaglehawk.
More than 2500 youths participate in the program across 250 Victorian brigades.
Eaglehawk CFA junior brigade co-ordinator Nathan Rogers, who started out in the youth brigade in 2000, said the program provided a range of safe, enjoyable and challenging activities for young people.
“Juniors get to take part in a range of activities as part of the program, including training for CFA championships, fund-raising, community service involvement, first aid, practical camps, social activities and practical firefighting skills,” Mr Rogers said.
CFA junior brigade support officer Mark Gravell said after the Black Saturday bushfires the junior members were a great support.
“They all rang up and asked what they could do and helped us to wash the trucks,’’ he said.
