Youth off the Streets supports homeless and drug addicted young Australians as they work to turn their lives around. It is our goal that these  young people will leave our care drug free, with a high school education, living skills and a full or part time job in hand. Based on the philosophy that every young person has greatness within, these programs are non-denominational and non-discriminatory.

Innovative Health Services For Homeless Youth (IHSHY)

Service for young people aged 12-24 experiencing homelessness, or who are at risk of becoming homeless. The program involves supporting young people to access other health services, to link in with appropriate support networks, and to provide a safe place to explore their current situation and needs without judgment.  Young people can access appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays by calling BCHS

 

IHSHY workers can:

  • provide sexual and general health services
  • advocate on the young person’s behalf
  • assist with connecting the young person to other services
  • provide secondary consultation
  • provide a presence in services who work particularly with young people at risk

Loddon Mallee Housing Services Ltd (LMHS). "It is a fine and fragile line that we all tread which forms the divide between safety, security and cultural and community connectedness and hardship, alienation, dispossession and homelessness. Homelessness can happen without warning but more often it is a slow insidious process. And it can happen to any one of us, not just any one of them." Loddon Mallee Housing Services Ltd (LMHS) is the leading homeless person's agency in the region. They strive to embody the values of dignity and respect and we work in concerted and practical way to make a difference to the lives of people experiencing homelessness or who are in housing crisis. Their goal is to assist people not only to overcome the initial crisis but also to work together towards long-term housing, stability and independence.

 

Horizon House Bendigo The Horizon House Project provides a solid foundation for young people to learn the skills required for independent living, pursue their education and develop trusting and fulfilling relationships before moving on to the next phase of their life. . Youth Supported Accommodation and Assistance Program (SAAP)The Youth SAAP service provides accommodation and support to young people (15-19 years) who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.  The service provides a range of accommodation options include board providers/carers, live in carer houses, emergency accommodation and access to transitional housing for young people in the Bendigo area.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Leaving Care and After Care Support ProgramThe main components of the service are case management and support, links to housing, transition units for independent living, living skills education, links to education/training/employment, family support and practical support. In partnership with Whitelion, young people are also linked with Mentors in the community and provided with assistance to access training and employment. The Leaving Care and After Care Support Program provides leaving and after care support to young people who have been in care.  The target group for the program is 16 to 18 year olds who have limited housing and support options.  The program can provide support to these young people until their early adult years.
