The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was well worth the rate of today’s escalating cinema prices. Two and a half hours full of power, deception, confronting scenes and the usual movie traits of a hero’s journey – refusal, acceptance and the inevitable victory.
Allegedly the movie was very tame compared to the books.
I hadn’t read the books or seen the original Swedish version; what made me want to see this movie was David Fincher’s involvement as I really enjoyed his movie ‘Zodiac’.
Needless to say his latest effort did not let me down.
The soundtrack was provided by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Atticus Ross. The duo also worked together to provide the soundtrack for ‘The Social Network’ movie.
The two stories, of journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander, that eventually wove together were really captivating – what murder mysteries aren’t though?
Rooney Mara lives up to the hype. Her portrayal of the character is excellent, it’s a shame that ‘unusual people’ like her character are still not widely accepted in today’s society.
I won’t put in any spoilers, but the emotional tone of the end scene doesn’t really seem to fit with the rest of the film, this leaves you thinking that a sequel has been locked in.
