Fresh Tunes! By Tarnay Sass

You know when you've heard your favourite songs on your 'Pod over and over again until you're so sick of them you skip right past them when you're on shuffle mode? You keep flicking through your tracks never content with one to listen to all the way through? Well, that always happens to me. I scroll irritably through my artists and albums until I find one song that seems tolerable enough that I can hit that play button. (unless of course it is music by the Cat Empire, that I never get tired of!) After about the third restless rotation through all my bands, A to Z, I start thinking: "right! I need some fresh tunes!".

But WHERE to find these fresh tunes, these new beats, these magical tracks never before heard by my ears? Well! I am here to hopefully help someone else out with this problematic occurrence that I often have. I do it for the good of tasty beats and musical appreciation everywhere. Here is a list of my top new tracks, hopefully of which you will be hearing for the first time after reading this! Hearing and (possibly) loving!

I know many people enjoy listening to many different types of music, and not everyone will like the songs I've chosen, some may even hate them! But here they are, if you choose to give them a listen!
Best thing of all, most of these tracks I found after many hours of trawling through Triple J Unearthed, which means you can download these songs for free, LEGALLY! Woohoo, who doesn't like free music!?  Ok, here we go! Enjoy.

1. From Under The Ground by Willowbeats
Genre: Electronic, Dance
Sounds: If you like electronic music with soothing melodic vocals, give this track a go. It also has a very subtle dubstep-ish bass and nice repetition.

2. Beautiful Day by Potato Potato.
Genre: Folky Pop
Sounds: Perhaps a bit slow to start off with , this tune is nice and relaxing, with awesome harmonies in the chorus. This young band are from Byron Bay, and I can definitely imagine chilling out on the beach and having this coming through my headphones.

3. Pepper Snake by The Cactus Channel.
Genre: Funk, Dance, Jazz
Sounds: There are no lyrics in this track, which might put some people off straight away, but this song is so groovy I don't think it's possible to listen to without at least tapping your toes! Heavy on the brass instruments, especially saxophone, give this a listen if you like something a bit jazzy and funky.

4. Skin by I'll Be An Indian.
Genre: Indie, Pop, Electronic
Sounds: Ok, I might be a bit biased in picking this song, as I know a couple of girlfriends and one sister of the boys in this band, but this track is good! The band is made up of vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard and sampler, and all are combined to create a track very easy on the ears. Also, they are a local band, so if you like them they will probably even have gigs coming up. Check out their Facebook page for more.

5. Shoplifter by Mesa Cosa.
Genre: Punk
Sounds: A messy cacophony of guitar and yelling, this song is perfect for blasting really loudly in your room to irritate the other members of your household with.

6. Bad Guys by Bleeding Knees Club.
Genre: Punk, Indie
Sounds: One of the sort of songs I just want to jump around and dance like a crazy person to. Only heard of this band recently, but I'm sure I will be listening to them a lot more! Sort of makes me think it would be the sort of underground punk music cool grown ups would've listened to back in their teens.

And that's it! What do you guys think?
