Floriography: The Historic Legacy of Flowers

By Hannah , 13 August, 2025

I recently read 'Floriography: The Myths, Magic & Language of Flowers' by Sally Coulthard. It has detailed descriptions of over 50 flowers and their histories.

I had lots of fun learning about these plants and wanted to share with you some fun facts about some of my favourite flowers - Wattle, Jasmine and Oleander. I truly hope you enjoy reading the blog post and learn a little more about the flowers and plants around you!

If this article has piqued your interest, I strongly recommend reading Sally Coulthard's book, which inspired this Blog. There's a copy available for borrowing for free at the Bendigo Library.

And that's it for this Blog! I had lots of fun learning about these plants and their different origins and histories! I would love to do more on different plants but that is for another time. I hope you enjoyed reading and even learnt a little something new about these plants, thank you very much for your time.

If you are looking to find something else to read in the meantime, I suggest checking out our latest magazine issue! There's always something interesting to be found in them.
