Lilly Correll is entering her 4th year as a City of Greater Bendigo Youth Councillor and in year 12 at Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
As a Youth Councillor, she has been in many different leadership positions. Lilly was a Working Group Chair for 2 consecutive years, (2021 Environment, and 2022 Experience), and was elected as Deputy Youth Mayor in 2023.
In 2023, Lilly Correll greatly benefited from being a Deputy Youth Mayor. Her desire for positive change strengthened as well as her passion for advocacy, engagement and creating a sense of community.
During her time in leadership, Lilly has been awarded the Bendigo District Zonta award for being a Young Women in Public Affairs. Lilly has now also been awarded the International Zonta Award as a Young Women in Public Affairs on a global scale. She is one of 36 women from 20 countries across six continents to receive this award.
She was also invited to speak at the State Parliament’s WE LEAD Women in Leadership event. This has aided in developing her professional and personal skills.
Lilly has also been a member of the Bendigo Sustainability Group committee of management and is currently a member of the Coliban Water customer advisory committee. She was also invited to participate in the Women in Gold Exhibition, where she provided a quote for the Pennyweight Lane mural.
During her life, she has always felt a strong sense of equity and social justice. This is something she carries throughout her work, and she is proud to watch the new Youth Councillors carry the same sentiment.
In 2024, Lilly is one of the oldest serving Youth Councillors, and is now elected as the youngest Youth Mayor in the City’s history. She takes great pride in this role and aims to better the community through her Youth Mayorship.
She wants to ignite passion in the generations after her, to fight for what they believe in and create positive wavelengths in their community. Furthermore, she truly believes that everyone, no matter their background, deserves to be empowered to make the most of life’s opportunities.
