A Fright to Remember — Nightmare on View St Took Over Halloween

By Chelsea Hill, 05 November, 2025

On Saturday, November 1st, the YO Events team conjured up a spectacular Halloween celebration for Bendigo’s young people aged 12–25. A first-of-its-kind event, A Nightmare on View St transformed The Engine Room into a gnarly night of fun, creativity, and connection for young people.

At the heart of the event was the Haunted Maze, a chilling labyrinth taking guests through haunted mansion, ghostly graveyard, nuclear fallout and zombie apocalypse and circus themed areas filled with life-sized monsters, eerie animatronics, chilling projections, smoke and lights and very talented scare actors hiding around each corner, adding just the right amount of fright, ensuring the experience was spooky and safe.

But the thrills didn’t stop there. Young attendees could opt in or out of the maze and enjoy a range of Halloween-themed activities, including:

  • Delicious alcohol-free ‘potions’ at the Witch’s Kitchen booth.

  • An array of Halloween themed arts and crafts including pumpkin painting, badge making and jewellery making.

  • Tarot card readings and face painting

  • A selfie booth to capture the fun frights

I enjoyed the friendly and welcoming nature the event provided, and loved seeing how much effort was put in to ensure everyone was comfortable and having a good time.

Ebony, age 23, Nightmare on View St Event attendee

Shout-out to the YO Events team, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, meeting weekly to brainstorm activities, design flyers and promotional materials, develop potion recipes and face painting options, and select themes and decorations. Many additional afternoons were spent at the YO office cutting, painting, and building props and decorations.

The YOEvents team would also like to thank the additional young people who came on board to support this event and volunteer their time- Emily, Lee, Max, and Levity.

If you're aged 12-25 and interested in being part of planning and delivering events like this, join our YO Events team! We would love to know your ideas for events, and it is a great experience to gain skills in event management.
