It has been a busy school holidays at YO Bendigo with lots happening such as a Landscape painting workshop, Make your own spoon rings workshop and also our YO Chill Day!

Both of these creative workshops were facilitated by young people.

The first one was a acrylic landscape painting workshop that was facilitated by Lasith who is a talented artist and also a member of our YO Media team.

To start off the session participants got shown a short slide show that went over the basics and the do's/don'ts of painting with acrylic paint.

After the presentation participants then chose a photo as their reference and sketched a rough outline on their canvases, ensuring the proportions were just right. With their outlines ready, it was time to dive into the colors and bring their masterpieces to life. everyone left with a stunning piece of art they could be proud of!

Our second workshop was all about crafting unique spoon rings, it was facilitated by Sara who is an amazing artist and also from our YO Media team.

To start off the session Sara explained the instructions of the workshop and got everyone to pick two spoons they liked to create their ring.

Participants measured their fingers with string, marked the cut-off points on the spoons, and had Sara cut them to size. They then smoothed the edges with a file and sandpaper to ensure a comfortable fit. The final step was bending the spoons into perfect rings using a special machine, with Sara guiding them through each step.

By the end of the workshop, everyone had created their own stunning, wearable art pieces!

These school holiday's we also hosted another always-popular YO Chill Day at YO Bendigo 😎.

We had a fantastic turnout with many young people dropping by throughout the day.

They enjoyed a variety of activities including, video games, crafts, Board games and some delicious snacks 🍓.

Young people found it was a wonderful day to build connections with others and make new friends.

It was also a great time for people to unwind in a welcoming environment.

The Nintendo switch was very popular on the day and the new Nintendo games were a smash hit for everyone! 🎮

We can't wait to host our next YO Chill day and hope to see you there!

Overall participants from both workshops had a great time and gave lots of positive feedback!

We can't wait to host more creative workshops over the next school holidays. If you or another young person you may know are interested in running a creative workshop please contact us using the details on our website.
