My week at YO Bendigo by Freiya

By Chelsea Hill, 02 October, 2026

Monday

Today I started my first day of work experience at 9AM - too early to be up in the school holidays. I started my day with Leon giving me an induction, then taking me over the road to Galkangu to get my visitors pass. We went upstairs to get my computer for the week, but it was being a pain and took so much longer than expected. Once we were done, we went back to YO where we got my computer set up before going back down and getting a hot chocolate from the café (Leons shout!).

We came back to YO and did some writing before going and getting fish and chips for a team lunch, Part of my work experience tasks were some writing activities - two Ambedo blogs and this article!

I then helped set up the YO chill day before getting back into writing one my articles. I got to go home at around 4 pm after a long busy day.

Tuesday

I started my day nice and early again but this time walking into the office, I got met with CLEANING!!! So I helped Katie clean up the big room and there was so much stuff!

I then sat down and did some work helping with making plans for the haunted maze for the halloween event. I worked on that all morning then sat down for a lunch break.

After lunch I did some more work on my articles before going into a meeting with Leon and Chelsea about the 2026 Youth Awards. I then went back to writing my articles. I ended my day with a few snacks from the pantry and more article writing.

Wednesday

Today I started the day with more writing on my articles as well as adding a few more pieces to the Halloween mood board I had been creating. I had a very quiet morning before heading out and getting some chips cheese and gravy for lunch.

I then came back to YO and went to a meeting with Chelsea and Katie across the road about Summer in the Parks. We then went to the reject shop to get a new light globe as one had burst in the bathrooms.

When we got back, I finalised one of my articles for the blog. The article was about Energy Breakthrough and you can read it here.

Leon helped me pick out a few things on my resume that needed some work and that pretty much finished my work experience day.

BUT I had Youth Council as well so it was a long day for me!

Thursday

I got to sleep in a bit today because I didn’t get into YO until about 11:30AM which was a nice change. I hopped onto my computer and started fixing up the bits of my resume that Leon had pointed out yesterday.

We then headed down to the fish and chip shop for some yummy lunch. I then did some more article writing. Today was fairly quiet and uneventful.

Friday

My last day of work experience! I started the day bringing in a little treat for the YO team as a thankyou. Then Lily showed me how to publish my second article about the octopus to the website. I then spent some time chatting with Katie as well helping pick out some Halloween things.

After that we went across the road to see Jesse before coming back to YO and having our lunch break.

After lunch I started creating some missing posters as decorations for the YO Halloween event before printing them off and making them look old.

I finished my day with writing this article you are reading now and publishing it. And that was a wrap on my week of work experience at YO Bendigo!
