Having been involved with various volunteering opportunities, I would say that the day my volunteering journey truly started, was the day I joined the City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council. Three years ago, I joined the Youth Council under the hopes that I could grow as a person in a way that benefited not only me, but the people and the community around me. 

From advocating on youth issues, to MCing events, to filming a video with the Governor-General of Australia, my volunteering has led me to places and events beyond what I could have ever imagined. While I give my time, and my attention to supporting and building up my community, the greatest growth occurred within myself. Looking back and seeing how far my skills, my confidence, and my leadership have grown is the reason I continue to volunteer. And seeing these all develop in my fellow young volunteers is why this journey is so rewarding.

 To any young people thinking of volunteering - throw yourselves out there! These opportunities open up the door to new friends, new ideas, and new abilities - all you need to do is get started!
