Our amazing Youth Council leadership team have been busy representing our Youth Council at some big and important events over the last few weeks, having the chance to speak about Youth Council and what they do. Attending the 100-year celebration of the Bendigo Easter Fair Society, as well as the Bendigo Legacy Centenary’s 100 year's celebration where they met Sam Mostyn, the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
On Thursday the 2nd of April Youth Mayor, Alyssa Beaton, and Deputy Youth Mayor, Ella Filsell, attended the celebration of 100 years of the Bendigo Easter fair Society at the Living Arts Space in the Bendigo Visitor Information Centre. Not only did they get to see a display of all the items from the last 100 years, but they also got to listen to guest speakers Simon Mulqueen, the President of the Easter Fair Society, Doug Lougoon, the President of the Bendigo Chinese Association, and the Bendigo Mayor, Mayor Cr Thomas Prince.
Youth Mayor Alyssa Beaton Says “Seeing the display with items from throughout the past 100 years really highlights the significance of the Bendigo Easter Fair Society. Their commitment to providing a fun, safe and welcoming Easter Fair, year after year is truly amazing.”
On Saturday the 11th of April, our Youth Council leadership team had the pleasure of attending the Civic reception in honour of Bendigo Legacy Centenary’s 100 years celebration. The event was attended by the Greater Bendigo Mayor, Mayor Cr Thomas Prince and guest of honour Her Excellency Sam Mostyn AC Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, who was very interested in our Youth Council and what they do.
Youth Mayor Alyssa Beaton says “It’s such an honour to be present at the celebration of such an incredible organisation. For Bendigo Legacy to make 100 years of supporting and assisting the Bendigo community is a remarkable feat, and one they should be immensely proud of.”
Deputy Youth Mayor Ella Filsell says “It was an honour to be invited to celebrate 100 years of Legacy in Bendigo. It was also very exciting to meet the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, who spoke about her experience with veterans and honouring those who have served as well as her passion for care and community. It was truly an incredible experience.”
Deputy Youth Mayor Bailey Dolan says “It was a true privilege attending this important event. Speaking with the Governor General herself was a key highlight of the event”
We are so proud of our Youth Council leadership team for making the time to attend these important events and we can’t want to see what they will do next.
