Purple outfits, creative vibes, plenty of laughter, and a whole lot of pride filled the room as young people and community members came together to celebrate Wear It Purple Day in Bendigo.
Wear It Purple Day is an annual awareness day that celebrates and supports LGBTQIA+ young people. Every year, people are encouraged to wear purple as a visible sign of support and solidarity.
This year we celebrated with our friends from Thorne Harbour, Trans & Gender Diverse Bendigo & Beyond and others with a fashion parade and pizza party! The event welcomed a small crowd of young people and created a warm, inclusive space where everyone could connect, express themselves, and celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride in their own way. While the fashion parade may have been the headline activity, the day quickly became so much more than that. With the fabulous Pollyfilla emcee-ing, we were treated to iconic music, a beautiful story time and an all-round amazing time. TGDBB hosted their famous clothes-swap, with plenty of purple, parade-able and playful clothes to try on and parade. There was also some stalls from local services, including the YO Bendigo team.
Over at our stall, we did bracelet and jewellery-making with most attendees leaving the event with purple, sparkling jewellery to match their new outfits from the clothing swap! Shout-out to Moon from the YO Events team for coming along and supporting the YO stall.

Trans Awareness Week and Trans Day of Remembrance are in November. We recommend signing up to Thorne Harbour Country's newsletter for updates around events for this dates.
