YO Bendigo was busy last week! Two workshops in two days. Micro-credentials and creativity workshops.
April 12th and 13th – First Aid Training
This month’s micro-credential was First Aid. Participants came in over the two days for three hours each day. This course is so important and it's always incredible to see young people getting enthusiastic about learning how to save someone’s life!
The first day was focused more on the CPR part of first aid. Learning all the acronyms, including DRABCD, and different tips and tricks to perform CPR! The second day was centred around bandages, EpiPens and asthma inhalers, with a real hands-on approach taught, allowing participants to practise correct use rather than just read about it.
The course is spread over two days, so the participants have flexibility outside of school hours. The program is very interactive, and the trainer manages to find a way to make First Aid theory fun. It was so amazing getting to watch all these young people take the initiative to learn something so important, and worthwhile, and that will add to their future job readiness so early.
April 13th – Paint Pouring Workshop
On Thursday YO Bendigo also held another, trendy paint-pouring workshop.
Paint Pouring is a fun and highly individualised way to make art, with each piece turning out different from the last. The partakers had an incredible time making these masterpieces and a huge mess as well.
The group was run through various techniques and ways to alter the pour before and after it landed on the canvas. They attempted a seahorse, and as shown below the results were marvellous. So many different colours and variations.
