Our Priorities

The Youth Council have identified four priority areas for 2021. Each priority area will have a working group, chaired by a youth councillor, to identify ways to affect change in the community.

One of the best ways to  deliver meaningful change is to provide genuine engagement opportunities for young people, and there is no better way than to give more young people a seat at the table.

The Youth Council invites  young people from our community to join the following  working groups:

Supporting our Economy

Education, training and employment pathways are extremely important to the development of all young people in Greater Bendigo. With one of the highest youth unemployment figures in the state, the Youth Council believes they are well placed to support and advocate  for  programs that will help reduce this rate. This working group will take a hands-on approach to improving the employability of young people through upskilling and professional development, and will work with a range of external stakeholders to ensure education and employment opportunities for young people continue to grow in Greater Bendigo. We are looking for people (aged 12 -24) who are passionate about improving the economic opportunities for young people in Greater Bendigo.

Meeting times: the 1st  and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 4:00pm – 5:30pm. Meetings will take place over ZOOM and in person.

Increase Environmental Sustainability and Action

The Youth Council have identified the concern young people have for environmental sustainability and Climate Change. We are seeking young people (aged 12-24) who are keen to make a positive impact in our community. The group aims to work with stakeholders to deliver a variety of programs to address environmental issues facing our community, identify ways to reduce our carbon footprint and better manage waste through practical and innovative solutions.

This is an opportunity to meet and work along side like minded individuals and organisations to create a positive change in the community.

Meeting times: the 2nd  and 4th Monday of the month from 4:30pm – 6:00pm. Meetings will take place over ZOOM and in person.

Champion Youth Representation and Advocacy

This working group is focused on increasing the representation and highlighting the contributions young people make in Greater Bendigo. Building the public perception of youth and increasing youth engagement within our community, will be key tasks for this group, and providing opportunities for young people’s voices to be heard will also form part of the priorities for this group.

Meeting times: the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 4:30pm – 6:00pm. Meetings will take place over ZOOM and in person.
