Koorie Youth Flick Fest Competition 2026
The Koorie Youth Flick Fest returns to the Central Victorian Indigenous Film Festival in 2026!
Are you a First Nations person under 25 years old living in Central Victoria with a story to tell? We're looking for films that showcase this year's theme 'Deadly'. Submit your short film into the Koorie Youth Flick Fest for a chance to win $1000!
Download and complete the Application Form by Monday 27 April, 2026.
All films must be received by midnight on Monday 27th April. Submit your film to Chelsea Hill at [email protected]. This can be done electronically via an online transfer such as www.dropbox.com or Google Drive or by dropping in a USB with the file. You can drop a USB off to YO Bendigo at 41-43 Mundy Street. Contact Chelsea if you have any problems with your submission.
The Koorie Youth Flick Fest is open to all Aboriginal young people aged 25 and under living in Central Victoria
Each person can only enter one film to the competition
There will be TWO winners awarded
Each winner will be awarded a prize of $1000
The competition will be judged by a panel of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and community members including First Nations staff from the City of Greater Bendigo. The decision of the judging panel is final – no correspondence will be entered regarding film selections and prize winners

Films can be shot using any device, such as a smart phone, tablet or camera
Films must be no longer than 3 minutes
There is no minimum time limit
You can use any software or apps to edit your film, and you can edit on any device
The film must focus on the theme “Deadly” but this theme can be told or explored in any way
Your film must be suitable for screening up to PG classification (see www.classification.gov.au/classification-ratings). This means that the film may contain language and themes that are mild in impact and which may require the guidance of parents, teachers or guardians.
The judging panel are looking for films highlighting story-telling, creativity, originality and for stories that meet the theme of “My mob, my place’
By entering a film, you are giving permission for your film to screen at the awards ceremony and to feature as part of promotions. If your film is screened in other Council venues or elsewhere as part of promotions or events, additional consent will be sought.
AWARDS ANNOUNCEMENT
The 2026 Koorie Youth Flick Fest winners will be announced at a special event during the Central Victorian Indigenous Film Festival, May 27 – June 3 (as part of National Reconciliation Week celebrations).
This event provides an opportunity to acknowledge the winners and celebrate everyone who submitted films to the competition.
All applicants, family, friends and other supporters will be invited to attend this free celebration.
