Youth Deputy Mayor Billie Taylor

Meet Billie Taylor (she/her pronouns.) Billie is 20 years old and studies Law and Psychological Sciences at Bendigo Latrobe. She lives in Kangaroo Flat, and works on a casual basis at Zambrero Bendigo and La Trobe with the School Partnerships Program.

She began her love for leadership in high school where she took every opportunity available in student councils, debating teams and college council at Bendigo Senior Secondary College. Billie is also a member of Headspace Youth Reference Group, as she is a strong advocate for the importance of mental health awareness.

Billie’s interests vary with examples such as mental health awareness, gender equality, sustainability, justice, youth empowerment, domestic violence prevention and LGBTQI+ advocacy and rights.

Billie was in the Youth Action group where the team started forming ideas that would create the Youth Council, and joined the Youth Council to be part of the change that she wanted to see in Bendigo for the voice and agency of young people. Billie is excited and humbled to represent the youth of Bendigo and to be an advocate for change. She aims to engage the wider community in discussions around the empowerment of youth and involvement in decisions and activities.
